Multiscale Robust Regression, Multiscale Influence Anal- ysis and Application to Edge Detection

چکیده
The Multiscale Strip Construction, or in short MSC (Lerman et al., 2007), was initially proposed to identify enriched spots in ChIP-on-chip arrays. Here we extend this method to the setting of robust high-dimensional curve estimation. We establish its robustness as well as accurateness by bounding both the empirical influence function and the empirical bias of approximation at a sufficiently large set of points. We also demonstrate in practice the robustness and accurateness of MSC by comparing it with other successful methods of robust regression on artificial data sets with significant outlier components. A new application of the high-dimensional MSC to edge detection is introduced and tested.

Characterization of Signals from Multiscale Edges
A multiscale Canny edge detection is equivalent to finding the local maxima of a wavelet transform. We study the properties of multiscale edges through the wavelet theory. For pattern recognition, one often needs to discriminate different types of edges. We show that the evolution of wavelet local maxima across scales characterize the local shape of irregular structures. Numerical descriptors o...
متن کاملDiscriminating color space selection for edge detection using multiscale product wavelet transform
Edge detection is an important low level image processing step, which can influence the final results. In this paper, an effective method, named the multiscale product wavelet transform, is proposed for edge detection. Although the one scale wavelet transform is a universal method, it is not suitable for real complex images because this method cannot efficiently detect edges. Therefore, the out...
متن کاملMultiscale Analysis of Transverse Cracking in Cross-Ply Laminated Beams Using the Layerwise Theory
A finite element model based on the layerwise theory is developed for the analysis of transverse cracking in cross-ply laminated beams. The numerical model is developed using the layerwise theory of Reddy, and the von Kármán type nonlinear strain field is adopted to accommodate the moderately large rotations of the beam. The finite element beam model is verified by comparing the present numeric...
متن کاملA Novel Noise-Robust Texture Classification Method Using Joint Multiscale LBP
In this paper we describe a novel noise-robust texture classification method using joint multiscale local binary pattern. The first step in texture classification is to describe the texture by extracting different features. So far, several methods have been developed for this topic, one of the most popular ones is Local Binary Pattern (LBP) method and its variants such as Completed Local Binary...
متن کاملInvestigation of Vacancy Defects on the Young’s Modulus of Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Composites in Axial Direction via a Multiscale Modeling Approach
In this article, the influence of various vacancy defects on the Young’s modulus of carbon nanotube (CNT) - reinforcement polymer composite in the axial direction is investigated via a structural model in ANSYS software. Their high strength can be affected by the presence of defects in the nanotubes used as reinforcements in practical nanocomposites. Molecular structural mechanics (MSM)/finite ...
